Remember teeter-totters? Did you ever get ejected too high, or worse – dropped with a thud? I discovered that the safest, most stable place on the teeter-totter is right in the center, where it never moves.
Been struggling lately with two extremes, kind of like a teeter totter: pride and self- sufficiency on one end, and fear and anxiety on the other. I know we are supposed to trust the LORD, but how do I keep from flying too high with pride and self- sufficiency or bottoming out with fear and anxiety?
If the safest place on a teeter-totter is in the center, the fulcrum, then that is where I want to be with God. He never moves. His WORD is my stability. My security. My freedom! Pride and fear only get worse the farther away from the center (HIM) I move, increasing the risk and danger.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart (no fear)
and don’t lean on your own understanding (no pride).”
And Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God which surpasses understanding will guard
your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (no fear, no pride).”
So how do I trust God? I came up with the 3 T’s:
1. TAKE personally what He has promised to do.
2. TALK with Him about what He has promised to do.
3. THANK Him for what He has promised to do.
The more I do the 3 T’s, the closer to the center of the teeter-totter I am. Because HE is the center, and that is where I belong!
