How much of our life do we spend pleading with God to fix things, change them and make them just the way we want? I know most of my brain energy and prayer time is devoted to helping God know just how to do things for me. After all, I should know!
Recently it occurred to me that HE knows way more than I do, and He cares way more than I can ever imagine! It is not my job to direct Him. Ask, yes. Plead, of course. But trust. And accept. And most importantly, walk with Him in the path He has lovingly and wisely laid out for me.
Yesterday I desperately needed a walk, but it was pouring rain! As usual, I asked Him to please stop the rain so I could go for a walk. He didn’t. Instead something much more beautiful and life altering happened. I wrote it down:
I pleaded with the Lord to stop the rain.
“Please, God!” I cried, “I know You can!”
He didn’t.
Instead He lovingly handed me
an umbrella, and walked closely
with me through the rain.
I realized that this truth has already carried me through many deep waters in my life, and there are likely many more to come. I pray I can remember that all He wants, and all I need, is to walk WITH Him wherever He leads. Rain or shine.
