Taking off in a jet is always a thrill! Recently taxiing toward the runway, I was ready to go! But for some reason we stopped. And just sat there. Hmmm. And sat there. Grrrrrr. I looked out my window and sure didn’t see any reason why we weren’t going. Getting quite impatient, I wanted to stand up and shout, “Okay! Anytime now! Hello?!”
Suddenly I saw a HUGE jet landing right in front of us! Hmmmm. It occurred to me that the pilot knew something I didn’t. He saw something I couldn’t. Even though it seemed like he wasn’t doing anything and there was no reason for the delay, I was SO glad he waited.
When God doesn’t instantly do what we ask, as humans who like to be in control we quickly get frustrated. Next time I pray and there seems to be no answer, I want to remind myself that:
God KNOWS something I do not,
He SEES something I do not, and
He IS working even though I cannot see.
Life is filled with daunting uncertainties, from the thrill of a take-off, to the dread of a ?’water landing” (euphemism for crashing into the ocean). The safest way to navigate through them all is to take God’s advice: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
Faith is not necessarily feeling great all the time. It’s often uncomfortable. And stretching. But it’s this mysteriously intangible connection that draws us close to the Lord. In the unknown. It is leaning and relying on our Heavenly Pilot to get us safely where we need to go, and ultimately to our final destination: our Home in Heaven.
