Would it blow you away to find out that God has a special book filled with the names of those who honor Him, and meditate on His name? Check out Malachi 3:16:
“Those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard. So a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name.”
Amazing! In my recent ongoing recovery from a serious illness (thank the Lord I am doing so much better!), one thing I started doing was filling my mind with the names of the Lord. Especially in the waking moments of the night.
I’ve spent much of my life trying to get to sleep or get back to sleep over the years. Ugh. But now, what I do (it took time and commitment) is when I start to wake up I immediately say, “Jesus.” Or “Prince of Peace.” Or “My Good Shepherd”…etc. I love it! I feel so close to the Lord whenever I meditate on His name.
It has transformed restless nights to so much more peace and joy, which carry over to the day. 🙂
I did a search for the names of God in the Bible and have a pretty good list to meditate on (night or day.) You can do the same. One idea is to make a list of 31 and focus on one each day of the month. Or have a few of your personal favorites to enjoy dwelling on regularly. Some of mine are:
Jehovah “I AM THAT I AM”
El-Shaddai (God Almighty)
Creator
Jehovah-Shalom (God is Peace)
Jehovah-Jireh (God Who Provides)
Jehovah-Rophe (God Who Heals)
God of Angel Armies
Comforter
Abba Father
Wonderful Counselor
Emmanuel – God with Us
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Jeshua/Jesus (Jehovah is Salvation)
I also have incorporated some very helpful neuroplasticity protocols, which have been a key to my healing. Whatever we choose to THINK about, that part of our brain will grow. If we are inclined to negativity, and choose to think and talk about how terrible things are, our brain and heart will seek more of that to feed on.
But, if we choose to fill our minds and hearts with uplifting, peaceful, and joyful truths, our brains will gradually want more and more, and will eventually automatically be inclined to those happy thoughts and feelings. I know. It has happened to me!
The other part I realized is that what we choose to TALK about will also impact the development of our neural pathways. So I’ve also learned that talking with others about the Lord really brings me joy, and perspective and hope. (And I have chosen to NOT talk about controversial news issues at all. It’s wonderful!) 🙂
I encourage you to give it a try. So simple, really. Nothing fancy. Just THINK about the Lord, especially His name, and TALK with each other about Him. Then watch for new blessings, including your name in God’s special book. 🙂
