Someone I know lost their home to a fire. Such a shock and tremendous loss! They were so grateful that at least they had a good fire insurance policy.
I got to wondering if God offers “soul insurance.” I thought I knew the answer to that. But after some searching, you might be surprised at what I found.
None of us are strangers to the obligatory list of insurance policies – health, home, car, and even “life.” Typically we talk with an agent first, and then sign up. There’s no personal relationship with the rep; strictly a business transaction.
Then it’s our responsibility to pay the premiums (ouch). And if we lapse in payments, so does our coverage. And that could prove to be a disaster.
Some religions offer “soul insurance.” It might look something like this: You fulfill certain requirements, and in turn you have a better chance of going to heaven (or other pleasant place) after death. Religions without relationship with God are very popular because they make people feel better.
God does NOT offer this counterfeit “soul insurance.”
He offers something FAR better! I call it SOUL ASSURANCE. 🙂
Here are 3 things He tells us in the scriptures:
1. It’s based on a personal relationship with Him. We KNOW Him and He knows us.
Jesus spoke of the coming judgment where people will plead with Him and try to impress Him with all the good things they did. His answer is, “I never knew you. Get away from me.” (Matthew 7:21-23) Truly tragic!
In contrast, I love that as our Good Shepherd He said, “My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and I give to them eternal life.” (John 10:27) 💜
2. Soul assurance is not dependent on what WE DO, but on the once-for-all price already paid by God’s Son. It’s a GIFT received by faith. With no premiums!
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
“By grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
3. God’s soul assurance is SURE. Not wishful.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
(Hebrews 6:19)
The good news is that God doesn’t offer soul “insurance,” but soul ASSURANCE. An eternal policy paid in full! It’s available to anyone through a personal relationship with Him, by faith in the once-for-all payment of Jesus on the cross.
And that is the BEST policy anyone could ever have!
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)
Eternal life is to KNOW Him. I hope you do. 💜
