At about 3:00 one Friday afternoon a spectacular supernatural event took place. Yet most people have never heard about it, even many who were nearby at the time.
To appreciate the magnitude of its significance, we have to take a step back in time and view the big picture.
Most of us know that our Holy God created us to have a relationship with Him, but tragically our sin severed that relationship. Forever.
But that did not stop Him. He had a plan from before time began.
According to His commandments, Moses and the people of Israel built the tabernacle and later the temple. The daily blood sacrifices served as a graphic reminder of our sin, and the supreme holiness of our God. They never took away sin, but showcased our need for a permanent Savior, who would be the ultimate sacrifice and our High Priest forever.
A massive curtain, known as the temple veil, was an enormous barrier to a very special chamber, the Most Holy Place. This could only be accessed by the high priest once a year, bringing blood on behalf of his sins and those of the people. There above the Mercy Seat God would meet with him.
Where was HOPE?
Where was the promised Savior who would break down the barrier and open the way to God again?
At about 3:00 one Friday afternoon, the sinless blood-soaked Son of God willingly hung on a cruel cross. For you. For me.
“With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”
Hallelujah!!!
“By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. With his own blood he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time, and secured our redemption forever.”
God Himself ripped that barrier in two, opening up the only Way to Him. Why? Because he loves us and wants us with Him. Forever.
Now He waits for us to enter. ♥️
