Just when you think you’re getting close to knowing it all (haha)😄 someone asks a monumental question. “Who is the Holy Spirit, what does He do, and does it matter to me?” Hmmmm. Wow.
After weeks of seeking the Lord’s help and digging through Scripture, what a blessing to discover many amazing truths about the mysterious Holy Spirit!
Who is He?
Scripture describes the Holy Spirit in personal terms (not an impersonal force) who possesses emotions, intellect and will. He is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son, and yet distinct. He possesses the same attributes of deity, and does works only God can do.
And it’s okay if we can’t totally grasp this. (If you’re scratching your head, that’s normal.) It’s good to realize there’s so much about God that remains a mystery for now.
What does He do?
The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, and opens our spiritual eyes to see the truth of the Gospel. He gives us faith to believe.
Those who respond to this conviction, and by faith choose to believe in Jesus Christ, receive eternal life and a new spiritual nature.
He is our Helper. Literally, “He comes alongside.”
Jesus promised, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” (John 14:16)
He is our Advocate, Comforter, Encourager, and Counselor.
The Holy Spirit gives every believer spiritual gifts—abilities for service. What a blessing to be part of God’s Master plan!
He prays for us. 💜
The Holy Spirit guides us into truth, and glorifies Jesus.
He works in us and through us.
When we give ourselves fully to Him, the Spirit produces the supernatural “fruit of the Spirit.”
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
He brings to mind thoughts of God and hunger for His Word, and prompts us to seek Him and pray.
The Holy Spirit indwells the believer permanently. He secures our future!
The Holy Spirit seals the believer. A seal denotes something that is officially notarized. The Holy Spirit is our spiritual heavenly birth certificate. He is our pledge—our guarantee from God!
“God has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” (2 Corinthians 1:22)
And one day He will give eternal spiritual life to our mortal bodies. Hallelujah!
Does it matter to me?
It matters only if you truly want:
Spiritual eyes opened and faith to believe
Eternal life and a new spiritual nature
A forever Helper to come alongside
An Advocate, Comforter, Encourager, and Counselor
Spiritual gifts for service as part of God’s Master plan
To be prayed for in heavenly realms
To be guided into Truth
God to work in me and through me
Supernatural love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
Thoughts of God and hunger for His Word
An eternally secure future
A new forever body.

“In whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14)
