Ever had the thrill of riding in bumper cars at an amusement park? And live to tell about it?
Whee! It was supposed to be fun, but as a little kid unfortunately I was everyone’s favorite target. Slammed! Bombarded! Helpless and alone, it was anything but fun. And I didn’t know how to find my way out of the middle of the mess.
Eventually when I was tall enough, I got to drive the little race cars on a guided track. Now that was fun! And I didn’t have to steer perfectly. Sure I wobbled a bit, but the track kept me going in the right direction. I felt safe.
Funny how life has turned out to have its share of bumper car moments. Feeling slammed. Overwhelmed. Needing protection and direction.
Making choices can be daunting. And life continuously bombards us with challenges where we need to know which way to go. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a guided track?
Oh, wait…we do! Psalm 16:11 reminds us that the Lord will direct us, and will be with us…and tops it off with joy!
“You will show me the path of life, in Your presence is fullness of joy.”
So when those bumper car moments slam us, we can choose to trust Him. When we know the Lord, we are on a guided track, with Him. Even if we can’t see very far ahead.
And it’s okay if we don’t steer perfectly.
