I struggle a lot with wanting to help others, and really make an eternal difference in this world for the Lord. Sound noble? Read on. 😉 The hard part is the constant battle to resist pride (when things go well and I can see fruit), and the opposite extreme of self-imposed pressure and anxiety (when I can’t see, and think I should be doing more.)
Pretty sure this is not the way the Lord set things up. So in our desire to walk in His will for our lives, how do we find that elusive ideal middle ground between pride (“Yay… look what I did!”) and pressure (“Is that all you can do?”)?
On a recent hot summer evening while watering the thirsty yard with the hose, I noticed the shiny brass nozzle I held. Wow! It hit me! The nozzle is an important tool for dissemination, but the real source of life is the WATER itself. No room for nozzle pride.
Likewise, it is the WATER itself that goes out to bear the fruit. The results are not up to the nozzle. No room for nozzle fear or anxiety.
Just show up and let the WATER flow out.
And as we continue to seek His direction and leading, discovering what is important to GOD, there is a beautiful freedom and authenticity that begins to flow out through us. Maybe it is not Facebook stats that really matter. (What???!) Maybe it is that one person who crosses your path today whom you can encourage….perhaps without even realizing it. Or maybe someone actually living in your home…(scary, huh?)
My prayer is to be the very best nozzle I can, and let Him do the rest. Hope you feel watered today. 🙂
Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said,
“Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
~Jesus (John 7:38)
